Friday Fun Day! We’re having lunch together Friday June 24th, 12:00 noon at India Town!
We will be dining on delicious Indian plant-based fare, with NO added oils! I spent some time with Tony finding out what he would make for us that will fit the bill, and I’ll have a special menu with 8 entrees and several breads for our lunch! All entrees come with rice and your choice of mild, medium or hot spice 🙂
Can’t wait to see you there!
India Town

IF you are able to, RSVP so I can give Tony a ballpark of attendance numbers!
We’re getting together Wednesday June 1st for our regular meeting, and we’ll be talking about Lani Muelrath’s “The Plant-Based Journey” and share recipes and ideas together. A group member recently shared with me that she loves how knowledgeable our members are and would requested some visiting time during the meeting. I think it’s a great idea! We’ll talk about Lani’s 5 universal steps for sustainable change to a plant-based diet, and have some discussion time!
If you don’t know Lani yet, this is a “before and current” picture of her from her website, theplantbasedjourney.com. At 48, she switched from a vegetarian diet to a Whole Food Plant Based diet and seems to be getting younger and more vibrant each year!
Lani was a recent speaker at PBNSG.org!
Whether you are in the “Awakening” stage of plant based nutrition, a Plant Powered “Rockstar”or somewhere in between, you are a vital part of our discussion on the plant based journey!
Food, Friends, Science and Support! Mingle with plant based potluck at 6pm, meeting content starts at 6:30. Please come whether you have a dish or not: YOU are the most important part!
Next meeting, March 4th! We are going to attempt to live Skype with the PBNSG meeting and see Dr. Joel Fuhrman from the comfort of GR!
If successful, we can plan future collaborations, and we’ll delve into our planned topic, Lani Meulrath’s book “The Plant Based Journey”, during out next meeting.
Either way, we will have a wonderful time of Food, Friends, Science and Support! Come and join in on the fun!
Our March Plant Powered for Health meeting was delightful! We had a focus on PlantPure Nation easy to make/and ready made meals as well as a fabulous guest speaker, Naila Kovacevic!
Naila is a medical student at MSU, and shared her journey to plant based nutrition. She also shared her experience with PBNSG’s efforts to make changes to medical school curriculum and her hope to bring these changes to MSU’s GR campus. As a group, we hope to support these efforts, and welcome medical student to come attend our meetings!
The field trip to see Dr. Caldwell and Ann Esselstyn was outstanding! Dr. Esselstyn (Essy) told us all about the science of plant based nutrition, and Ann gave us the practical “how to” tips! PBNSG had a “plank off” as a fundraiser, and it was very impressive how long the contestants were able to hold the pose! One of the many programs PBNSG runs includes taking their speakers to the medical schools. Essy visited Wayne State University and spoke to the students!
Our monthly visit to Sue and Roger’s home for Supper Club was delicious and fun as always!
An incredible spread of delicious food! What is there to eat on a plant based diet?
I also went to the West Michigan Growers Fare and learned about many local community CSAs! Check out their facebook page, and see if there is a CSA that is right for you!
With all of this, what could possibly be next?
Tomorrow 3/30 and Thursday 3/31, Julieanna Hever, the Plant Based Dietician will visit PBNSG in Detroit! Field Trip for all those who are able to attend! Wednesday 3/30 Experts & hors d’oeuvrs, for women only panel discussion and gourmet food tasting! Then Thursday 3/31 Julieanna will be the featured speaker at PBNSG’s meeting. Don’t miss these opportunities!
We had so many events that deserve their own blog post each time! But to summarize:
*February’s Plant Powered for Health meeting (first Wednesday each month) was inspirational with special guests Denise and Debby from PBNSG! Please take a look at the PBNSG.org website for great resources, recipes, videos and upcoming events from our incredible friends!
*I was invited to a VegLakeshore potluck, and they have such a wonderful group! Delicious food, and delightful company! Check out their facebook page!
*As many of us do each month, we went to Chef Sue Stauffacher’s Supper Club (3rd Wednesday each month), and it was overflowing with delicious plant-based fare and nice folks! Sue surprised our group by donating the tips from our collective dish-washing to Plant Powered for Health! Many hands made easy work, and we received the donations! Thank you Sue and all Supper Club members!
***Then…drumroll…Dinner with T. Colin and Nelson Campbell at PBNSG!!! I will be covering highlights during our March 2nd meeting, but a small group had dinner with them at Green Spaces Cafe, then they spoke at the PBNSG meeting. They also showed PlantPure Nation, and talked about changing the nation’s health, networking together to produce change, and providing ways for people to get healthy and delicious plant based meals easily. The jumpstart program, as featured in the film, is now available to order as a package, or the delicious food is available on its own. I’ll share more tomorrow, but I want to share that this family continues to be a vibrant example of integrity to do the right thing, and I am so very excited that our group represents PlantPure Nation!
NOW, Bring IT ON MARCH!! Even more excitement on the agenda!
Julieanna is a passionate advocate of the miracles associated with following a whole food, plant-based diet. She has appeared on radio, television shows and consulted on “Forks over Knives.” Her latest book is, The Vegiterranean Diet!
During the month of February, many poetic words will be spoken about the power of love and caring for your sweetheart, but too often we show our love with addictive foods that make them happy. Isn’t it a much more loving act to learn what healthy foods they will enjoy? Foods that will increase their energy, vitality, immune function, and circulation so you can live life to the fullest together? For our February meeting tomorrow night 2/3/16 (details in the link) we will talk about preventing our #1 killer in the U.S., Heart Disease, batch cooking and other ideas to make it quick and easy, celebrate our success stories, support struggles, and share info on spotlight whole plant foods and recipes.
Since it is February here in Michigan, our special guests for the meeting are *weather permitting! We have planned 2 leaders from PBNSG coming to visit!
Denise Kling-Pelto is the Culinary Curator for PBNSG
Debbie Knight-Jones is PBNSG’s Director of Education and Co-Director of Plant-Based Transition
